Safety Precautions

Optional Add-ons to Dental Units/Dental Units

CategoryPrecautions
Units/Chair
  • Be sure to secure the unit/chair to the floor. There is a risk of the unit/chair tipping over depending on the position of the table and the way in which weight is placed on it.
  • Never place any objects under moving parts. If an object becomes caught, there is a risk that it could, depending on its location, damage machinery or cause the unit/chair to tip over.
  • When operating the chair, never take your eyes off the patient until the chair comes to a complete stop, and pay close attention to the position of the patient's hands and feet (have the patient place both hands on his or her knees or fold them in front of his or her body, and have the patient keep his or her feet completely on the chair). There is a risk of serious injury if hands or feet become caught in the gaps between moving parts. Also, check the location of anyone accompanying the patient and the status of equipment and devices before operating the buttons.
  • When operating the chair, check the position of the handpiece holder and make sure that there are no obstacles, such as a dentist's chair, assistant's stool, or cabinet, around the chair and then operate it. There is a risk of the chair getting caught on an obstacle.
  • Be mindful of the cuspidor's position when operating the chair. If the unit has a movable cuspidor, a hand can get caught between the cuspidor and the armrest depending on the cuspidor's position. Make sure that the cuspidor has moved away from the centerline before pressing buttons.
  • When operating the chair manually, units manufactured in 1997 or later (see the model number plate) will stop if an obstacle becomes caught under the chair or under the backrest, if you step on the chair's safety pedal, or if you remove your hands or feet from the control switch. Units manufactured before 1996 will stop if you remove your hands or feet from the control switch. While the unit is being operated via the control switch, it may not stop even if you step on the chair's safety pedal. Understand the differences in functionality before using the unit/chair (added on April 25, 2014).
  • When returning the instrument to the holder, be sure to take your foot off of the foot controller first. There is a risk that the handpiece will not stop operating.
  • When using a unit/chair with other devices, have each powered by a separate electrical circuit.
  • This device complies with electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) standards, but it may malfunction in environments with strong electromagnetic interference. When using a unit/chair in the vicinity of a device that generates strong electromagnetic waves (such as an electrosurgical unit), turn off the main switch.
  • If you notice any abnormalities during use, immediately stop using the product and contact the dealer where you purchased it or an OSADA sales office.
Dental light
  • Be sure to hold the handle when moving the dental light. There is a risk of a burn if you touch the lamp or mirror inside the protector while the light is on or immediately after it has been turned off.
  • When returning the chair's backrest to its original position (returning the chair upright), a patient may bump his or her face or head against the dental light, so retract the dental light before returning the chair upright (backrest operation in Auto 1, automatic return in Auto 2... for models without Auto Return or when Auto Return is disabled).
  • Always wait until the lamp has cooled down (at least 10 minutes after turning the light off) before replacing it. There is a risk of a burn if you touch a hot lamp directly.
  • If you notice any abnormalities during use, immediately stop using the product and contact the dealer where you purchased it or an OSADA sales office.
Touch burner
  • After the burner is ignited, do not bring your hands or face or flammable materials such as clothing or curtains near its top. This can cause a burn or fire.
  • Do not cover the burner with a cloth even after it has been extinguished.
  • If the ambient temperature reaches 40°C or higher, the pressure inside the cylinder may become abnormally high, causing the safety device to activate and preventing ignition or extinguishing the flame during use. Make sure that the cylinder case is not directly exposed to sunlight, hot air, etc.
  • If you notice any abnormalities during use, immediately stop using the product and contact the dealer where you purchased it or an OSADA sales office.
Vacuum trap
Drain trap
  • Be sure to wear rubber gloves when cleaning the vacuum trap and drainage trap.
High-speed air turbine
handpiece
(includes a 5x-speed contra-angle handpiece)
  • The chuck is a consumable part. Each time you use it, make sure that the bur does not come out. To prevent accidental ingestion, use a rubber dam whenever possible.
  • Never use the handpiece while the end cap is in contact with the oral mucosa, lips, or other parts of the mouth, or while the push button is depressed. There is a risk of a burn.
  • Be sure to insert the bur all the way in before using the handpiece.
  • If you notice any abnormalities during use, immediately stop using the product and contact the dealer where you purchased it or an OSADA sales office.
Micromotor
  • Do not use on patients with a pacemaker.
  • If you notice any abnormalities during use, immediately stop using the product and contact the dealer where you purchased it or an OSADA sales office.
Ultrasonic scaling handpiece
  • Do not use on patients with a pacemaker.
  • Use a file/plugger as specified by OSADA.
  • Use a rubber dam during root canal treatment.
  • When connecting the hose to the handpiece, make sure that the electrode pins that connect the two are not bent and that no foreign matter is attached to the pins. Insert the handpiece straight into the hose.
  • If debris accumulates at the connection between the handpiece and the hose, be sure to remove it.
  • If you notice any abnormalities during use, immediately stop using the product and contact the dealer where you purchased it or an OSADA sales office.
Visible light irradiator
handpiece
  • Do not direct the light onto your skin or eyes.
  • Hot air blows from the rear of the handpiece (this excludes certain models). Do not bring your face or hands close to the back of the handpiece.
  • If you notice any abnormalities during use, immediately stop using the product and contact the dealer where you purchased it or an OSADA sales office.
Multi-syringe
  • Insert the nozzle all the way in, tighten the tip cover, and make sure that the nozzle does not come off. There is a risk that the nozzle may come off.
  • Do not touch the nozzle immediately after using hot air.
  • If you notice any abnormalities during use, immediately stop using the product and contact the dealer where you purchased it or an OSADA sales office.
